Project Description

Cambridgeshire County Council (CCC) is committed to encouraging residents to transition from private car use to more sustainable modes of transport. While CCC has already initiated behaviour change projects such as Mobility as a Service MaaS and Smart Journey Planning, a dedicated incentive-based tool is still lacking. This project aims to bridge that gap by developing a mobile application that rewards and incentivizes sustainable travel choices. Funded by The National Hub for Decarbonised, adaptable, and resilient Transport Infrastructure (DARe), with support from the Greater Cambridge Partnership, this initiative seeks to drive meaningful behavioural change and promote greener mobility solutions.

The model will use a point-based reward system, where residents earn points for using sustainable transport options such as walking, cycling, and public transport. These points can be redeemed at local businesses, promoting green travel and supporting the local economy.

Using this tool, residents will explore various travel scenarios and participate in periodic challenges, gaining insights into their journey details (e.g., routes, distance, time, cost), environmental impact (e.g., carbon footprint), and health benefits (e.g., calories burned).
